Sunday Simplicity Tip #5
This tip is purely practical if you are a cat owner and completely useless if you aren’t.
Scoopable cat litter is the simple way to go. I use a cat box with a cover and charcoal filter deal. I fill it halfway with litter. Every morning I scoop out the solids into a lined mini step onĀ trash can. I know some litters say flushable, but I have found that to not be the case when old plumbing is involved – the trash is safer. Once a week just tie up the bag and throw it in your dumpster.
I also keep a wisk broom and dustpan on top of the box and sweep up the spilled litter every day to keep tracking to a minimum. The box is next to the toilet in the bathroom – where there is an exhaust fan when extra stink happens.
I keep the extra clean litter in a lidded metal trash can and add a large scoop or two every week to top off the box. The box itself gets sanitized a few times a year. I have found that if you keep up daily there is no need to do a complete change more than that.
Fewest steps, done frequently, minimal tools – simple. Let me know what you think.
